"Mindful Coaching: New paradigm for burn-not-out"
Venue: Betty Boothroyd Library, The Open University (Milton Keynes, U.K.)
Date: 27 Aug (Tue) 11:00am – 12:30pm (local UK time)
Topic: “Mindful Coaching: New paradigm for burn-not-out”
At this academic forum, Dr. Chou Wah Shan (周華山博士), Founder of Dreams Possible, will present how mindful coaching (正念教練學), a new paradigm of healing that combines mindfulness in Buddhism and western coaching techniques, helped social workers combat occupational burnout.
A pioneering research conducted by the University of Hong Kong in early 2024 reveals significant occupational burnout among social workers, with 93% exhibiting moderate levels and over 80% experiencing secondary traumatic stress. The research assesses the impact of an 8-week mindful coaching program aimed at mitigating these issues. Results indicate substantial improvements in reducing burnout and secondary traumatic stress, with participants also showing reduced symptoms of depression and a fourfold increase in compassion satisfaction.
The study underscores the effectiveness of the mindful coaching program in boosting well-being and resilience, enabling social workers to better manage job demands and positively impact their communities.
